A GUIDE TO

The Governor's Message

"Some cities you fall in love with instantly, Paris for example; others, like Bacolod, you have to really know for you to fully appreciate," thus declared a well-traveled advertising man of his growing fondness for the Sugarland of the Philippines. By then he had been introduced to some of the places and things indigenous to Negros Occidental. On this and his previous visit, he had savored the cool mountain of Mambucal Summer Resort, wondered at the antique collections of Montilla, Vega and Hofeliña, indulged his gustatory taste in Silay City, and tried the vintage locomotives of Victorias Milling Company and Azucarera de La Carlota. More importantly, he had the time and the good fortune to meet and interact with local people who epitomize the best of the Negrense.

Not everyone, however, has the time to meander and to experience the brand of Negrense hospitality that makes a visitor want to come back. This modest Guide to Negros Occidental is for him, the visitor who is here on a short business trip, whose time is limited, and whose hours will be spent in the confines of conference halls. It is our hope that this Guide will whet his interest to discover more about our province.

WELCOME, AND HAVE A PLEASANT STAY
IN NEGROS OCCIDENTAL.

RAFAEL L. COSCOLLUELA
Provincial Governor
Negros Occidental
